Jio's Satellite Internet Plan Inches Closer

This "Insights" piece covers Jio's significant stride towards launching its own satellite internet network across India. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has given the green light to Jio's ambitious plan involving 1,600 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. This development positions Jio as a potential deep tech player in the long run. The network is designed to bring high-speed broadband and mobile satellite services to every corner of the nation, addressing connectivity gaps. Jio plans to establish approximately 20-22 ground stations, each capable of handling up to 5 Terabits per second (Tbps) of data. This move by Reliance signals a major advancement in India's space technology and telecommunications sector, potentially impacting the digital infrastructure and market dynamics.
